International Museum Day held at Visakhapatnam Public Library on 18th May 2019

Andhra Pradesh Natural History Parks and Museums Trust, Vizag in collaboration with Natural History Society of India organized “International Museum Day Talk” on the theme “Museums as Cultural Hubs: The Future of Tradition” at Visakhapatnam Public Library on 18th May, 2019 at 5.30 P.M.  Padmabhushan Dr.Saroj Ghose, former adviser to the President of India delivered this lecture.  More than 150 prominent citizens of Visakhapatna participated in this programme.

Sri Basanth Kumar, Vice- Chairman, Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (VMRDA) welcomed the guests and spoke about various museums in Vizag which are serving the people both for education and entertainment. Shri K.Srinivasa Murthy gave a presentation about the architecture of various museums and also explained various innovative components of VMRDA Museums, APNHPM at Visakhapatnam. Prof. K.V.Subbarao introduced Dr.Saroj Ghose to the audience and  welcomed to the city of museums.

Dr.Saroj Ghose while delivering his lecture, advised museums to anticipate and respond to changing community needs.  He spoke about what makes a museum relevant. He listed, “directly address subjects of current social interest, special exhibits around the ‘core exhibits’, new interactives for public engagement, cyber exhibits for non-visitors, set-up anticipatory information bank and deploy state-of-the-art digital technology.” He summarised his talk by saying that culture embraces lifestyles, ways of living together, value systems, traditions and beliefs of the people.” He added that, culture can be well reflected by thematic presentations, rather than subject-oriented display.
